Update: Despite tens of thousands of calls and emails to your Senators, Senate Republicans have forced Senator Sanders to withdraw his single-payer amendment. Thank you for your efforts. Said ADA National Director, Michael J. Wilson: “Today’s vote was an opportunity for our elected officials to rebuke the powerful insurance industry who put profits before care. Instead, they chose to abandon American families struggling to get the care they need. “Access to health care is a basic human right that should be delivered to each and every person in this nation. The struggle to reform our broken, profit-driven system has carried us a very long way from finally extending that basic human right to all." Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced that the Senate will hear several more amendments to the health reform bill - and one of those amendments is Sen. Bernie Sanders' This is historic! Single-payer is publicly financed and privately delivered health care -- one common sense plan for all. One single standard of high quality health care - everybody in, nobody out. This is our time! We need to let Senator Reid know we are pleased the Senate will hear the amendment, but we must also urge our Senators to go on the record and support it. Email your Senators and tell them to support Medicare for All! Or, Make calls to Sen. Harry Reid and your U.S. Senators NOW: Senator Reid's Washington, D.C., office: (202) 224-3542 |
