Senate Passes Job Creation Bill

The Senate today passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act - President Obama's plan to create or save 3 to 4 million jobs by investing in energy, transportation, schools, and state aid.  The bill now goes to conference to iron out differences between the House and Senate versions.

Prominent national economists, both liberal and conservative, are urging Senate Republicans who voted for the President’s plan today to support a conference bill that is the most stimulative and creates the most number of jobs.  While Senators Specter, Collins and Snowe played key roles in moving forward President Obama’s jobs plan, their continued support remains critical when the House and Senate meet.  Little support is expected to come from any other Republicans in the House or Senate.

You recall that Nero Republicans in the Senate fiddled as our economy is engulfed in flames and hemorrhages, Jobs, jobs, jobs.

598,000 jobs were lost last month, the largest monthly loss since 1974.  Unemployment is 7.6%; 3.6 million jobs have disappeared from retailing, factories, service workers and more.  Each day that Republicans stall, another 20,000 people lose their jobs.

Faced with an economic crisis to clean up, we must reject half measures, we must reject delay. Urge your lawmakers to vote for a bill that creates the most jobs.
