"Are we thrilled to see the end of the Bush era? Are we delighted with the election of Barack Obama? Unequivocally, yes!!! "That does not, however, mean we must turn a blind eye when we have disagreements. For the most part, we have been pleased with the transition and with the Obama Administration appointments. Where we have had concerns, we have chosen to share them quietly and in private either with transition team members or with our allies in Congress. We have chosen that path because we want to give Mr. Obama a chance to set policies in motion that we truly believe can put our nation back on track. "So, when the announcement came that Pastor Rick Warren had been chosen to speak at the Inauguration, we thought about our concerns long and hard. And, then, decided that we serve no one well – including President-elect Obama – by remaining silent. "Rick Warren campaigned vigorously against gay marriage during the recent election campaign. He himself has said that the only difference between him and Pat Robertson is one of tone. For us, that means the welcome spirit of inclusion has gone too far. We would not remain silent if David Duke had been invited to speak and we cannot remain silent now. Bigotry, in any form, is unacceptable and each of us must be willing to say so loudly and clearly. To do less would be to condone something we find abhorrent. So, please join us in congratulating Barack Obama on his election, wishing him well in all he does and voicing your disappointment with this particular decision."
