Colorado: In one of the few states with a competitive primary remaining, Colorado presents us with the necessity of finding an example for two candidates. Conveniently Ken Buck and Jane Norton seem to have conspired to offer us a single event that parades their conservative values (read: abject stupidity) in full view and it starts, appropriately enough with Tom Tancredo. Tancredo gave comments at a Ken Buck rally that might be viewed by some as a minor example of hyperbole and by others as the single stupidest thing anyone has ever said in the entire history of Western thought. Buck who spoke immediately afterwards initially said that he disagreed with Tancredo’s assertion that Barack Obama is the greatest threat America has ever faced. After the story took hold, Norton sensed an opportunity to prove to the conservative base that she was really the crazier candidate and released a Facebook statement saying that she agreed with Tancredo. Buck, not to be out-crazied, flip-flopped with a similar statement that, “There is a lot of truth in what Tom Tancredo says.” Connecticut: I’m not really sure if it is all that necessary to say anything about this race, because if the Democrat can be nationally ridiculed for misrepresenting his military record (whether or not the story is completely accurate) and still be 20 points ahead, there really shouldn’t be all that much to fret about. Regardless, there is still a Republican candidate, meaning there is still a pile of well-dressed, human-shaped crazy. Aside from her past as the CEO of the World Wrestling Federation (which clearly qualifies her to craft complicated policy) Linda McMahon released a mailer in May detailing certain parts of her proposed energy policy. The crazy part? Well, less than a month after oil started spewing uncontrollably into the Gulf of Mexico, McMahon’s mailer describes her plan to put people back to work by supporting efforts to curb-stomp bald eagles… uh… I mean increase offshore drilling. Delaware: Remember the stimulus bill? That consistently underrated piece of legislation that created millions of jobs and possibly saved our economy from a much worse situation than the one it’s currently in? If you remember, then you probably recall that not a single House Republican voted for it. It should therefore strike you as somewhat odd to see Mike Castle, a House Republican, say this. That is a statement from the now senatorial candidate, Mike Castle, bragging about the stimulus funds going to his state. If that seems hypocritical to you it is simply because you don’t understand the difference between pork and important spending projects. You see, pork goes to those other states where people that can’t vote for me live, important spending goes right to the hands of my wonderful constituents who really should be told just how awesome they are. That’s it for this installment, more to come soon. BackCommentsAdd Comment |
