ADA Statement on Supreme Court Health Care Decision

Today, the Supreme Court ruled that the The Affordable Care Act, including its individual mandate that virtually all Americans buy health insurance, is constitutional.

Don Kusler, Executive Director of Americans for Democratic Action (ADA), stated that, "This ruling was not only a split decision at the Supreme Court, it is also a split decision for the American people. While we applaud the positive steps forward in the Affordable Care Act, we must do more in order to achieve a system that puts care before corporate coin."

While ADA applauds the advancements made today, we still support and advocate for a better system. That's a single-payer system: Medicare for All.

ADA President, Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) released the following statement:

“What we need now is to build on health care reform. We need to finish the job, with an even bolder and more ambitious plan. For nearly a half century, Medicare has provided health security to older Americans and those with disabilities in a fair and cost-efficient way. It’s time to give every American those same benefits. Let’s move now to pass Medicare Part ‘E’ – ‘Medicare for Everyone.’”

Now is the time for not only to celebrate our recent victory, but for ADA to continue to push for a better system.
