Act Today On Minimum Wage!

If you’ve ever doubted that we live in the midst of a second Gilded Age, compare the failure of our leaders to raise the minimum wage ($2.13 for tipped workers, $7.25 for all others) with their dogged protection of the interests of the wealthy. Since the recession, the latter has captured well over 100% “of all pre-tax income gains,” while the wages of average Americans have stagnated or declined. That this fact has been largely ignored by our representatives only confirms how backwards and misplaced their priorities truly are.

Congress should heed President Obama's call and pass a new minimum wage law. Aside from being long overdue and ethical, it would also help the economy by increasing the purchasing power of working-class citizens. There is no valid argument against assisting those who've borne the brunt of the recession's worst effects.

ADA is working with Restaurant Opportunities Center United (ROC) to stand up for working-
class Americans by exposing the injustice of the current state of both the tipped and general minimum wage. Today (February 13), ROC members will be hosting events in Washington, D.C., which will include the reintroduction of Wages Act by Congresswoman Donna Edwards, and a march to present petitions to a local restaurant accused of unfair labor practices. Check out the flyer below, and stand up for workers everywhere today!
