Desecration and Destruction of Churches No. 222Adopted 1996 Desecration and destruction of places of worship is a chilling example of a racial injustice, religious intolerance, hostility, and alienation. Places of worship are not just buildings; they are centers of community life and hope. The desecration and destruction of churches, mosques, synagogues and graveyards is motivated largely by racial and religious hatred in a society where civic, religious, and political leaders have failed to bring us together. In fact, some leaders actually foment bigotry. Respect for different ethnic and racial groups benefits the entire society. ADA condemns such violence and the attitudes that lead to it. # # # No. 222 |
