Israeli-Palestinian Conflict No. 492Adopted 2004 The majority of Israelis and Palestinians fervently desire peace between their two peoples. Former government officials of Israel and the Palestinian Authority announced in Geneva Switzerland on December 1, 2003 that they had successfully negotiated an accord that sets out a comprehensive peace plan. The acceptance and implementation of this "Geneva Accord" by both parties will result in a viable Palestinian state and security for Israel. ADA believes that the United States must take positive steps to push peace forward by encouraging Israel and the Palestinian Authority to implement the Geneva Accord. Ending occupation in all its manifestations, cessation of any growth in the settlements as well as suicide bombings and other violence against civilians would greatly enhance prospects for final peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. # # # No. 492 Foreign and Military Policy Commission |
