Topical Resolution: U.S. Justice Department Scandal, No. 294
Adopted 2007 (Topical)
Justice must be blind, and that includes being blind to politics. Attorney General Gonzalez has made the Justice Department, the advocate for the President’s partisan politics and his narrow ideological point of view, rather than the advocate of justice for all. The current administration has abused the Justice Department, our justice system, and our civil liberties and civil rights through its gross mismanagement, its dismissal of career employees for arbitrary political reasons, its substitution of political goals for legislative mandates, and its pursuit of prosecutions for partisan reasons. ADA calls for the immediate resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez and all other political appointees who engaged in these practices. If the Attorney General and the other abusers fail to resign, ADA calls for the U.S. Congress to begin procedures to remove them.
