UN Convention on the Rights of the Child No. 464

Adopted 2000
Reaffirmed 2001
Amended 2003
Reaffirmed 2005
Reaffirmed 2007

Whereas, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child has been ratified by virtually every state in the world except the United States; and

Whereas, the U.S. Senate Committee has not voted on the convention; and

Whereas, the failure to ratify the Convention allows the U.S., alone among the democracies, to continue to execute juveniles for offenses committed at ages as young as 16.

Whereas, the Convention, through its executive committee, is advancing the welfare of the world's children.

Therefore, Americans for Democratic Action urges that:

  1. The Senate ratify the Convention as soon as possible.
  2. The President press the Senate for ratification.
