House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to be Honored for Outstanding Government Service

ADA is very pleased to announce that the Honorable Nancy Pelosi of California, Democratic Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, will be presented with the first annual Frances Perkins Award for Government Service at the upcoming 63rd Annual ADA Awards Banquet.

The banquet will take place at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. A cocktail reception at 6 PM will be followed by dinner and presentation of the award to Leader Pelosi. Additional honorees and details will be released shortly.

“Nancy Pelosi is a pioneer, a history-maker and an inspiration to all of us who believe in public service,” said ADA President Rep. Lynn Woolsey. “Both idealistic and pragmatic, as compassionate as she is tenacious, she will go down as one of the great Speakers in the history of the House of Representatives. From the Recovery Act and health insurance reform, to the Lilly Ledbetter Act and DADT repeal, she has ushered in as much progressive change as anyone in recent memory. It has been a privilege to serve with her, representing the district adjacent to hers for nearly 20 years, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of the inaugural Frances Perkins award than Nancy Pelosi."

Leader Pelosi stated, "It is indeed an honor to be selected as the first recipient of Americans for Democratic Action's Frances Perkins Award for Government Service. As the first female Speaker of the House, I am honored to be presented this award by ADA and congratulate them on over six decades of work fighting for an America that works fairly for all. Working with the White House, Congress, and allied groups across the country, ADA has built and mobilized an extensive grassroots network that has successfully championed progressive national policies. I thank them for this effort and look forward to working with them now and in the future."
