Campaign Wrap-Up: Turnout Events in Indiana, Iowa; Canvassing Ohio; Backing Good Dems in California; Illinois Endorsements

Turning out Democrats who don't always vote will be key to liberal victories this fall. To promote progressive voter enthusiasm, Indiana ADA president Charles Mumaw led a chapter delegation to Indianapolis last weekend for the local launch of the citizens' movement Moral Mondays. In Iowa, the social activist Nuns on the Bus dropped by the ADA chapter headquarters on Friday, promoting voting and curbs on income inequality. Another way to energize the politically disconnected is door-to-door campaigning. ADA activists in Delaware, Hawaii and Ohio have been canvassing in recent weeks and several other chapters will begin knocking on doors soon.

Congress Needs to Act Now to Halt Corporate “Inversion” Schemes

Walgreens wants to renounce its U.S. “citizenship” and become a Swiss firm. Pfizer has been attempting to become a U.K. firm. Mylan, a long-time stalwart of the Pittsburgh economy(who’s CEO was recently named “Patriot of the Year”) wants to become a “citizen” of the Netherlands. Chicago-based AbbVie is paying $54 billion to buy Shire, so that it can become an Irish company. Corporate "inversion" is a growing problem!
